The idea for a "community-driven health care partnership was endorsed by city council Monday.

Two of the innovative ideas for the new model include a "health contact centre" downtown for the homeless and addicted, as well as a "community health centre" on the south side.

Fraser Health official Rowena Rizzotti formally presented the idea for the community partnership model to mayor and council yesterday afternoon, which had also been the subject of discussions by the Mayor's Committee on Health for the past several months.

"The project is a community-driven project and Fraser Health will provide the resources to help the project develop," according to minutes from the Feb. 24 committee meeting.

Consultant Ron Trepanier of Whalebone Productions has been hired to:

ID stakeholders;
Develop terms of reference for consultation;
ID priorities for the city; and
ID priorities for Fraser Health.

A consultation process is expected to start in September.
